The received wisdom seems to be that if boilers need a service, then it should happen ahead the winter months rather than spring and summer. After all, winter is when it’s really going to be put through its paces; like an athlete ahead of the big race, preparation is everything.

So your heating system needs repairing and you’ve decided to get your own parts in? Well, we understand the reasons why you might do such a thing. Invariably, however, there are consequences.

So when was the last time you had your boiler serviced? Is it an appointment that tends to slip, like that six-monthly dentist’s check-up that always becomes yearly because of how hectic things always seem to be? You know, really, it doesn’t have to be like that.

We all know how it is: we get up on a cold morning, turn on the shower and then….no hot water. It’s not the first time it’s happened, and it’s happening more often. Before, though, you’d managed to fire up the boiler successfully. Now? You keep pressing the ignition button, first in frustration, then in desperation.

Here in the UK, we probably take them for granted – to the extent that quite a few of us probably don’t really know how they work or how efficient they are.
