Why an A-Rated Combi boiler is the way to go

Like a lot of things in this world, central heating systems have come a long way in a comparatively short space of time. Take combi boilers, for example. Here in the UK, we probably take them for granted – to the extent that quite a few of us probably don’t really know how they work or how efficient they are. Our main considerations are that we’re warm in the winter, the energy bill is under control and the boiler never (or hardly ever) breaks down.

Combi is shorthand for combination – meaning a boiler that provides us with hot water as well as central heating. You probably know that already. But did you know that the latest models have an efficiency rating of over 90 per cent? If it’s getting to the time when you’re considering a new boiler, you might also consider the fact that a brand-new energy-efficient model can pay for itself in a couple of years.

An A-rated combi boiler from MV Plumbing & Heating is just the job. With the Energy Savings Trust stating that over 60% of consumers annual energy bills are spent on boilers, there’s a clear imperative to take action.

Simply replacing a G-rated boiler – the least energy efficient in the A-G ranking – with an A–rated one could save up to £300 a year. And not only is a modern combi boiler more efficient, its high-efficiency rating also means fewer CO2 emissions.

As we’ve already mentioned, an A-rated gas boiler works at over 90% efficiency, whereas a G-rated model is working at less than 70%. Effectively, this means that for every £1 you spend heating your home with the latter, 30 pence is wasted.

So…if the idea of replacing an old, out-of-date boiler is starting to make sense, then why not contact us for advice and a free quote?

A-rated combi boilers are more efficient for a number of reasons. Firstly, all modern gas or oil-fuelled models are known as condensing boilers. This means that the hot exhaust gases are passed through a heat exchanger, which condenses them, thus extracting heat energy (which would otherwise have simply been lost to the atmosphere) to help warm up water returning to the boiler from the radiators. It is in this way that an efficiency rating of over 90% can be achieved.

One example of such a boiler is the Intergas Combi Compact ECO RF boiler. A pioneer in the development of high-efficiency (HE) central heating engineering, Intergas has been striving to perfect its HE boilers for over 20 years now and the Combi Compact ECO RF represents its new generation. It is fitted with an RF module for remote control and direct communications via wireless room thermostats and comes with a 10-year warranty.

Other examples:

The Ideal Logic+ Combi C24 24kW boiler. This is a compact, reliable high-efficiency boiler with low emissions and a low component count. It has built-in frost protection and full modulation down to as low as 4.8kW, providing energy savings. It also has a large backlit display, user-friendly controls, an easily visible pressure gauge and comes with a seven-year manufacturer’s guarantee.

The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24Ri. This boiler is compact enough to be installed within a standard kitchen cabinet and is available in four different outputs – meaning that it will suit all kinds of property sizes. It has a built-in heating temperature control, has low emissions and, weighing just 22.6kg, is the lightest boiler in its class.

Each is a top-quality, A-rated energy-efficient combi boiler, and there are many more besides. But whichever make and model you choose, when you hire MV Plumbing & Heating to install and maintain it, you are guaranteeing yourself a level of service to match.
